Abstract

ZN: What, in your opinion, is the future of Islamic Studies in Southeast Asia?

JV: Islamic Studies in Southeast Asia has become much more cosmopolitan than it has been over the years. Ten years ago, I was at a conference in Pattani (in southern Thailand) which was looking at the future of Islamic studies in Southeast Asia.
